Space heater helps unfreeze car

I lived my whole life in the southwest so it wasn’t until I moved to the north that I first encountered snow and ice.

  • I was very proud of myself, the first time I drove in the snow.

I just took is slow and careful and made it home just fine. I know that my town salts the roads, and I have seen what salt does to the vehicles around here, so I decided that I should hose my car off when I got home. That was a huge mistake. By morning, my car was frozen solid to the driveway. The doors were also frozen shut and there was almost a half inch of ice cocooning my car. Thankfully, my neighbor came to the rescue. After having a good laugh, she came outside with a space heater and an extension cord. We used the space heater like a large blow dryer and thawed by car out again. It took over an hour and we used a lot of towels to dry the car once the ice started to melt. Otherwise, it would have just frozen back up again. Eventually, we were able to move my car into the garage where I left the space heater running in order to get rid of the rest of the ice. Then we both went back into my nice warm house and warmed up with my furnace blasting and hot cups of coffee. I felt pretty stupid about the whole ordeal but at least I made a new friend and learned a lot. I won’t be hosing off my car in 20 degree weather again.
