I’ve been an HVAC professional for ten years, and I’ve seen a lot of crazy stuff.
Most of the time the crazy stuff has been during service calls when I’ve been called out to clean the ventilation ducts in a client’s home. Ventilation duct and air duct cleaning are very popular services for our business. We seem to get more calls for air duct cleaning than for any other service that we provide. There’s a running joke among all of the HVAC technicians at our company that you just never know what you’re going to find when you’re cleaning air vents and ventilation ducts. One of my clients has a bunch of dogs and the last time I cleaned out their ventilation ducts I found a whole bagful of old dried up dog poop! And then another time I did an air duct cleaning at an old couple’s house and I found 87 marbles rolling around in the long ventilation duct upstairs. Another one of the craziest things I ever found during an HVAC service call was when I found an entire mannequin! It was disassembled and there were different body parts shoved down in various air vents throughout the house. That was so creepy that I almost told my boss at the heating and cooling company that I was done with ventilation duct cleaning forever! Unfortunately for me, if you’re going to work in the HVAC business, you have to be willing to clean out air vents!
