Using basic math for ductwork job

We thought if we could see the places ourselves we could make better, stronger, more customized air ducts and vents for each home

When it comes to basic math, and especially when it comes to money, then I am always right on point. I only can focus on numbers when there is a practical application for them, so I never did well in algebra class. Those problems always seemed like riddles, solving just for the sake of solving them, and I had no interest in that. I dabbled in accounting for a while, because those numbers made sense to me, but couldn’t handle sitting on my tuckus all day long. I ended up drifting into my brother-in-law’s sheet metal business, helping him make ductwork for local HVAC companies. It turns out I got pretty good at it, so we were able to produce twice as much ductwork sheet metal as he had been doing on his own. We got so good at it that we contacted the HVAC companies about letting us take measurements ourselves for the new install jobs. Before we were just making ductwork for them to fit in themselves, based on measurements they had taken. We thought if we could see the places ourselves we could make better, stronger, more customized air ducts and vents for each home. This would in turn save the HVAC company money and also save the techs time on installation. In six months we have tripled our number of contracts, with twice as many HVAC jobs per month, and it seems like the sky’s the limit. If we keep growing like this we will have to hire new guys and mass produce the ductwork!
