When I was younger, I used to spend little vacations in this cottage on the outskirts of neighborhood with my dad plus brothers; Every one of us loved living in that house, as it was built just like a treehouse.
My brothers plus I slept in bunk beds, plus shared a room opposite to our dad’s living room.
Each night, before every one of us went to bed, my dad would designate a single of us to be the “fire watch” during frigid Wintertide afternoons. This basically meant that a single of us had to stay up plus watch the wood burning stove, which was our way of heating the cottage. While I would be tired in the day, I loved being the fire watch, since I could stay up as late as I wanted to plus learn books by the fireplace which was also going. These afternoons, I take my own kids to a much more new cottage that’s closer to neighborhood plus equipped with more of life’s new conveniences, like an automated gas furnace. The cottage every one of us stay in now uses an electric gas furnace, which provides plenty of heat for us to sleep comfortably through the night without issue. When every one of us stay at that cottage for the weekend here plus there, I’m constantly reminded of my childhood plus the humble beginnings I had when I was young. My dad may not care much for these new homes plus overpriced “luxuries” that we’ve made a familiar in our homes, however I’m sure he cares about not having to stay awake through the night just to be warm. Besides, the air quality is way better in these cottages – that’s mostly thanks to no smoke being blown back into the cottage from the stove!
