Tighten Up Your Home to Save on HVAC Energy Use

I imaging that just about every neighborhood has one.

Our particular neighborhood is lucky to have one.

I’m not talking about a community garden. Although that and good HVAC for free would be real nice. In fact, I am speaking about that one person in every community that is just so wise and full of great advice. Our person is a wonderful lady that lives just down the road from our home. She is in her late seventies but you would not know it from the energy she displays. Whenever I am worried about some sort of problem, this woman knows just what to say to help me through. However, she always delivers her words with kindness and caring. She never comes across in a know it all sort of way. She actually just gave me another big lift the other day. I was whining about the fact that my HVAC was costing me so much money in utility costs. All she said was that I need to maybe close up my house a bit tighter. At first, this just went right over my head. I couldn’t understand what she was referring to. She further explained that I might be letting too much of the HVAC treated air to escape our home. She thought it might be prudent for me to close up all the gaps in the house. And, have the HVAC ductwork checked for gaps as well. I took her up on it. First, I began by sealing up any gap or hole I could find around the entire house. Then, I went to the attic and sealed everything I could find there. The HVAC company sent a crew out to clean and then reseal the air ducts throughout my home. The next month I saved 15 percent on my utility bill.
