Spring causing problems because of switching from heating to cooling

Fortunately for me, the a/c specialist on the line was very knowledgeable.

I was so glad when it was finally spring this year! It had been a very long, cold winter and I had been running my furnace like a madman trying to keep warm. However, like always around here, the beginning of spring did not necessarily mean that I was done with my furnace. In fact, it meant that I was probably going to be switching back and forth from my air conditioner to my furnace at various times throughout the day. Heating, cooling, cooling, heating; it never stopped. Well, it never stopped until it did. As I was switching back to air conditioning later that afternoon, I heard a particular clunk that sounded pretty bad. I knew it was bad when my air conditioner didn’t seem to be working properly. In fact, the air conditioner didn’t seem to be working at all! The HVAC system seemed to have completely shut down. I tried switching it on again, but when that didn’t work, I called my HVAC provider in hopes of finding a solution. Fortunately for me, the a/c specialist on the line was very knowledgeable. I explained to her that I had been switching back and forth from heating to air conditioning all day and that this last time the a/c seemed to just give up. She said that it wasn’t unusual, although it was rare, to blow the outdoor breaker. When I went out to check the outdoor breaker on the air conditioner, the a/c specialist was exactly right. I thanked her over and over again and she said in the future to try to allow 5 minutes on the “off” position before switching back and forth so quickly.
