It pays to be friendly with the neighbors – gave us emergency AC unit

Whenever we moved into this house, we were immediately swarmed by a few of the neighbors.

The guy across the street made sure to introduce himself and make things incredibly awkward right away.

He had no issue with pushing his political views and gossip about the neighborhood on total strangers. Then, we met the folks who live next door. Thank God, we are more compatible with these kindly people. They happen to be old crunchy hippies like our parents, and they’re totally cool with our young person lifestyle. In fact, we get along so well that we regularly chit-chat in the yard, just like in the movies. Having great neighbors here has a lot of perks – including improving our monthly energy bills and indoor air quality. You see, a few weeks ago we noticed that the air conditioning system was struggling. It seems like our house was getting warmer with every passing day, and the energy bill was ever-increasing. We mentioned this to our neighbors, and they told us to holler if we ever needed help with the central cooling system. Well, a few days ago our air conditioner finally broke down. There was a huge bang, and then cool air stopped flowing into the house. When we tried to contact the rental company, they couldn’t get an HVAC technician on-site for another several days. With the heat and humidity each reaching about 90 that day, we were worried about surviving without AC. Thank God, our neighbors noticed us standing outside and staring at the broken AC unit. They promptly came over carrying two AC window units, and asked if we needed help installing the cooling devices. I love this neighborhood.
