Switching from the bars to the gym

For most of my adult life, I have enjoyed hanging out at bars and pubs.

It was so much fun spending time with like minded people and making new friends.

It was relaxing to be around a bunch of people who were willing to talk about all different topics. I have never been a big drinker but loved the atmosphere. The older I got, the more I realized the drawbacks of bar life. Too many people drinking too much alcohol got tedious So, I decided to give that up. It felt weird no longer having a crowd of people to hang out with. However, I found a new group of people that I like even better in a new location. I now hang out at the local gym! I signed up for a gym membership a little over a year or so ago. I only invested in the gym membership because it was included free with my company’s wellness program. I am so thankful that I decided to take advantage of that offer. Initially, I began spending time at the health and fitness center because I was bored, lonely and hoping to get in a bit better physical shape. With the guidance of a personal trainer, I was able to find a workout program that suits my needs and goals. The workout program incorporates weight lifting with cardio exercises. I also work on balance and flexibility. I signed up for group fitness classes for something extra to do and found a group of truly wonderful people. It’s been great. We all workout together, go for runs, kayak, hike and socialize as well. This is a much healthier way of life for me.
