When I was a kid, we would also make a trip to the mountains for winter break.
Although we were not always together, that’s when our family always got together for the year.
We would eat and make a fire in the wood burning fireplace In addition to spending time together, we always went to do something fun, like go skiing or snowboarding. I remember one year, we were really cold in the cabin. My dad went to adjust the thermostat and came back to tell us that there was something wrong with the heating system. Without heat, I knew that we would freeze to death overnight. Okay, maybe not to death, but we would be very cold. I was not sure that we were prepared for this, but my dad always had a plan. He went to the shed and pulled out some space heaters. I had only heard about space heaters in school when they would tell us how dangerous they were.That night, my dad left the space heater on and fell asleep on the couch in the cabin. Without doubt, the space heater caught a curtain on fire, just like my school had warned me about. I smelled the smoke first and ran outside to tell my mom. She was so proud of me for being the hero of the trip that winter. The fire department came and said that space heaters cause fires all the time. I was so scared that night but everything is fine. We never use space heater in my house now.
