My parents were genuinely strict when I was in school.
After all, I was their only daughter, & so they coddled me throughout everything I did.
This also happened when I started dating my first boyfriend when they became even more strict & created rules that were easy to break so that I would be grounded all of the time. When I was grounded, our bestie snuck up the side of the apartment & would crawl into our entryway window so we could hang out, then one evening after he crawled in, we were watching a film when we heard our mom scream from their entryway. Apparently, a mouse had climbed out of the air vent & jumped onto their bed, every one of us later learned that the mouse had crawled in from our air vent & traveled through the ducts to get to our parents’ room! My dad diagnosed the air ducts & noticed that they were not properly sealed. Our HVAC specialist must have skipped this step during the last inspection. My dad had been meaning to find a modern HVAC supplier for us to liaise with because this was not the first time he had dropped the ball. My parents were so anxious about getting the ducts sealed away that they didn’t bother to question how the mouse came inside on the first site, but once the air ducts were getting sealed & the specialist advocated the possible reason for the mouse’s appearance, my parents quickly realized how sneaky I was being. I still blame that a/c specialist for me getting caught & being grounded for the rest of that entire school year.
