Leaving me on my own

My mother-in-law called me the other day in a panic! She was frustrated because she’d ventured into the basement plus found that her walls plus her floor were all very damp.

Normally, she never goes into her basement because it’s an unfinished basement.

Her home is very old plus the only things down there is a few boxes, the gas furnace, warm water tank, plus a few rusty tools. My boyfriend goes to her house a couple times a year to check things out, plus replace the filters in her gas furnace. This is really the only time someone sees her basement. Anyway, I wasn’t sure why my mother-in-law decided to go into her basement, however told her that I would send her child over when he was done working. When he came home after visiting her, he told me her basement was wet fet from all the spring rain. This was causing her basement walls plus the floor to seep moisture. My mother-in–law said that she had plans to contact the Heating plus A/C contractor in her neighborhood to see about purchasing a new high quality dehumidifier for her basement. She said that the ones that were sold at her local hardware store weren’t powerful enough to remove the amount moisture in her basement now. I was sad because my boyfriend and I would need to go over typically to empty a reservoir, however my boyfriend said she’d be able to directly feed the drain tube into the pit outside. Neither my boyfriend or I would have to check on her basement again. Once she had the new system hooked up to her basement, we were no longer needed. The Heating plus A/C contractor commanded that someone should check on the unit once a month plus shut it down during the drier seasons to extend the life of it. At least it was a easy fix.
