I never wanted to be an HVAC worker

I don’t know how this happened and I’m not very happy with my life right now.

Does anyone else ever stop and feel that way? Where did the time go? Who did I become? And how did this all happen to me? It’s a baffling realization to look around and realize that everything you’re working for is nothing that you actually want.

This was something I had to swallow last month after a particularly difficult heating, cooling, and ventilation repair appointment. I arrived at the broken air conditioner system residence and quickly rang the doorbell, expecting a distraught homeowner to show me to their broken AC system. Intead, I found an amused homeowner who casually started complaining about his entire air temperature control system. Apparently, he’s not happy with his thermostat, his heating system, or his AC unit and never has been. Instead, he’s been waiting to take vengeance on whatever heating and cooling technician had the misfortune to arrive at his place the first time any of the HVAC equipment failed. In the meantime, the guy wasn’t taking care of his heating and cooling devices whatsoever. They never had an air filter change, a duct cleaning, or even a professional diagnostic service for the AC unit and furnace. Now, here he was, screaming in my face about his failed cooling system as he laughed about the “no worries warranty” we offered. At the end of the appointment, I had spent 8 hours there without receiving a dime for my services. I never wanted to be an HVAC technician, and I never could have dreamed of people being this awful.
