When I was young, if you wanted to learn a skill after high university, you would go to what they called a trade university or a vocational university.
Women often went to learn how to be fine secretaries, dentists, or hairstylists, but men would often go to learn how to become a plumber, an electrician, or an air conditioner maintenance specialist.
At some point in time, it became kind of an unacceptable goal to learn a trade, & all students were always encouraged to go to school. That is absolutely ridiculous, as not most people is interested in more than three more years of book learning. Now, the pendulum is swinging back, & people are often encouraged to go to what they now call work universitys. They call them that because they particular ly teach you a work. As a high university lecturer, I had several students who likely would have done better learning a trade such as plumbing or air conditioner repair, but kinesthetic learners, in particular, are often better suited to trades such as electricians or Heating & Air Conditioning installers. We were absolutely not allowed to propose to our students that they learn how to maintenance heating & cooling units or how to chop hair back in those days, however nowadays, it is perfectly satisfactory once again. I did have a single absolutely smart student who told me he wanted to go to a work university, however his guidance counselor was warning him against it. He came to me for advice, & I knew that he was absolutely a kinesthetic learner. If he could not hold it or touch it, he had difficulty learning it. I told him to do what his heart told him to do, & as a result, I get free a/c & furnace maintenance whenever I need it from our former student!
