Ever since I had graduated from HVAC certification school, I had been working as an apprentice for the local HVAC company.
After I finished my apprenticeship, the owner of the HVAC company offered me a job.
I almost agreed, but I knew that I wanted to head back home. I called my mom and let her know I was coming home. She agreed to help me find an apartment, but I was going to live with her and dad until I got one. I found a job within days of moving. In the meantime, I kept watching the girl next door. I had a crush on her when I was a kid and I was thinking that I would try talking to her again. I used to try to ignore her because I was shy around her and I couldn’t talk. I’m pretty sure she thought I was a dufus of the worst kind. While I was working for the new HVAC company, an apartment had opened up and I was going to spend my weekend moving my stuff from my mom’s house. Before my weekend started I had to do a HVAC maintenance. I acted as if I was only there to do her AC maintenance, which I was. I knew in my heart that I had been anxious about this service call, because I wanted to see her. I was shocked to see how beautiful she had become. I talked to her about the air conditioner and the little things I was doing. There really wasn’t anything wrong, but I tried to make it last so I could just talk to her. Instead of asking her out, I just shook her hand and handed her the receipt as I walked out the door.
