The unethical thing that I did to get back at my landlord

My landlord is such a jerk. He promised in the contract that he would fix the furnace whenever it broke down. However, when my furnace or air conditioner would break down, he would let the problem stay for weeks without doing anything. This was his effort to force me to pay the HVAC technician to fix my own furnace and air conditioner, thus saving him money. He knew that I didn’t want my family to be without a furnace for a few weeks and he knew that I legally wouldn’t be able to sue him in time for our furnace to come back on. So when my furnace broke down one day, I thought of a completely unethical thing to do. I was in contact with one of my friends, and I told him that my furnace was broken. I told him my plan, and he offered to let my family and I stay with him until we got our furnace fixed. I called my landlord, and I told him that the furnace was broken and needed to be fixed. He told me that he would take care of it, but I knew that he would never call the HVAC technician in time. He left that house without a furnace for an entire month. One day, I called him and asked him if he ever planned to fix the furnace, and he was floored. That’s right! I left the furnace off for a month, and now he was going to have to pay for plumbing repairs too. I told him that I would sue him unless he did what I asked since the contract affirmed that he was responsible.
