Forced to withstand harsh heat in cheer practise

During high school I was on the cheer team.

Looking back at those days I think it was one of the most embarrassing things I have done, but I don’t regret the experience.

In fact, it is one of those moments that brought me closer to some of my best friends to date meaning that cheerleading isn’t all terrible. We practiced in our gym when the basketball team was practicing, and I was dating a point-guard. It was fun to see him that frequently. The worst section about practicing in the gym was how tepid it would get though. The a/c always blew out, but it didn’t absolutely hit the corners of the gym for some reason. It seemed all the school cared about was cooling off the basketball players since the AC worked on their side. My dad said that the gym had terrible zone control, and I had no idea what this meant. We were informed that it meant an uneven distribution of air going towards every section of the gym happened through an intricate zoning process. The gym was quite old and hadn’t had a renovation in about twenty years, so it made sense that the zone control was either not completed, or weakened overtime. The principal said that they had plans to renovate the entire school’s heating, ventilation and A/C system, but they never did it while I was a student. Cheer practices would have been a lot more fantastic if the two of us had cool air to cool us off during the Springtime. My cheerleading squad was thankful that we did not have to practice over the summertime as the basketball team did. I can only imagine how brutal those practices must’ve been, but then again, they had a/c blowing on their court.
