The A/C keeps icing over

My home a/c is a hunk of junk. The machine always is freezing over. I called a local a/c supplier and I appreciated their honesty. The girl said that there was no point in replacing it with new. The Heating and Air Conditioning worker told me I could get a few years out of it if I was willing to put in sme work. I need to officially change the air filter, dethaw the whole machine and have A/C repair at least once a year. Basically if I let the machine clog with dust, then it will freeze over and be worthless. I hate messing with my cooling system more than 2 times a year. The girl has a point though. The A/C still does technically work. Once it is cleaned and thawed I do have a official cooling system for quite awhile. The cost of the A/C repair is so small compared to a brand current system. Really the only thing to factor in is my time and effort towards the seasoned unit. I legitimately guess I am not going to last a few years. It legitimately smells taking a hairdryer to the side of my A/C device. I don’t prefer chipping away the ice and having a mess afterwards. I would much rather think I have a clean, efficient system running reliably. I also think my A/C bills would entirely decrease since a current system would be energy smart. Perhaps at the turn of the New Year I will treat myself to a brand current A/C device. I recognize I have earned it.
