Good Strong Knees and Heavy HVAC Equipment

I was saying how my knees have a lot of mileage on them.

  • I was a former skydiver, long distance cycler, and beach volleyball player for the past 30 years, so it goes without saying that my knees have taken some abuse.

After all of this though I am still able to carry a heavy mini split air conditioner up five flights of stairs without a problem at all with my knees. I think keeping the legs strong is key to keeping the knees healthy. Lately I’ve been working a lot at the HVAC business as it is now the middle of summer and very hot outside. I did 182 skydives and a handful of them were very hard landings causing concussions, sprained ankles, and sore knees. So carrying something like a portable AC unit up five flights of stairs is quite amazing after everything my body has been through. I need to keep working out and doing yoga because it has been working very well to preserve my body and slow down the hands of time. I will have to carry some radiant heaters and maybe even some big bulky commercial heat pumps up a few flights of stairs in the wintertime so I need to keep these knees in good shape. I do yoga every single day and have been for the past 11 years now and it has proven to be one of the best things for my body. I can bend over for hours working on ductwork or air handlers with no problem and no pain afterwards.
