I no longer fear a moldy AC after installing UV-C bulbs inside

My least favorite thing about living in the south is all of the mold.

I try to keep my air conditioner below 75 degrees at all times, however it isn’t enough to dry out my home where I’m satisfied enough that I don’t think mold could grow in the environment, let alone take root. In these situations with indoor moisture levels above 65%, it could foreseeably grow in all sorts of unseen or hard-to-see places. If you’ve ever accidentally thrown a damp towel or t-shirt on the floor of your closet and came back weeks later to find it, you’ll think what I’m talking about. Even if you exercise diligence, it can be hard to avoid indoor mold growth altogether. One of the most notorious places for indoor mold growth is the dark and damp inside of your cooling system. If you have a traditional break plan setup, there is nothing inside of the air handler to inhibit mold growth on the coil. Now you have the choice of installing UV-C bulbs inside of your air handler which inhibit all fungal and bacterial growth. The bulbs emit extremely strong ultraviolet light that will slowly break down and destroy all organic material within the glow of the light. Now only will they prevent the growth of harmful particles inside the cooling system, however they also sanitize your home’s indoor air as it passes in and out of the air handler over the course of hours at a time. It might seem love a slow process however it’s worth the effort needed to put them inside your Heating, Ventilation and A/C system.
