I thought I could ice skate in my home.

I got up to go to work this morning, and I didn’t know what I was going to be coming home to. I always set my thermostat so that the temperature will drop down to sixty while I’m away. An hour before I get home, the temperature slowly comes back up to seventy. I walk into my home and it is warm and cozy. When I got home last evening, it was so cold that I couldn’t stop shivering. I called the HVAC company, but it was too late for my pipes. I could almost hear the water freezing in my pipes. The pipes that run through the basement were frozen and one had burst. I swore I could have ice skated across the floor. I called my homeowners insurance and told them about the burst pipes and my furnace going out. They said they would have an adjuster to the house as soon as possible. In the meantime, I had to sit at the house and put up with having no furnace and watching icicles form in my house. The HVAC technician arrived before the insurance adjuster. He checked the furnace and told me I would need a new one. I began to laugh. He must have thought I was crazy until he realized what he had said and then he laughed with me. The insurance adjuster showed up in time to listen to us laughing. He started walking around and looking at the damage, while I tried to stop the tears before they froze. Now, I’m wondering if my homeowner’s insurance will pay for the damages and for the new furnace.
