Dead batteries are easy fixes in HVAC thermostats

When he looked at the entire HVAC system, he surmised that the problem was as simple as dead batteries in the thermostat itself

It’s easy to change batteries for essential tools and gadgets. I’m sure I’m not the only person who fails to check their smoke detectors on a rolling basis, although my complacency in this regard is fatally stupid. Other items like remotes and mice for computers aren’t a life and death product, but it’s easy to forget about the batteries. Remotes can get frustrating because they’ll lose sensitivity as the batteries inside dwindle. I’ll be walking up to my TV with the remote in my hand to get it to register. When I have to move around the room to get the remote to work, you know it’s a serious problem. Unfortunately, this isn’t always enough to get me to quit being lazy and finally replace the batteries. Recently a problem with dead batteries caused me to think that my entire central heating and cooling system was fried. I walked over to the thermostat and saw a blank screen. There was no light and nothing but a blank gray square to look at. Because I don’t understand how thermostats get power, I immediately assumed that my air conditioner and furnace were broken and would need to be replaced right away. In a frantic rush, I called my heating and cooling supplier and asked for the earliest appointment. Thankfully, the HVAC company sent out a technician later that afternoon. When he looked at the entire HVAC system, he surmised that the problem was as simple as dead batteries in the thermostat itself. Once he put new batteries inside, it turned back on and my air conditioner was running again. I was relieved that the air conditioner problem was simply dead batteries in my thermostat.
