Gigantic House Means High Heating & Cooling Costs

A year or so ago, our sibling bought a gigantic house.

I find it so strange, as I believe he should be downsizing, not moving into a bigger venue, however there is no convincing him of that. Instead of moving into a townhouse or something, he sold his rather big loft & bought a gigantic a single. Mind you, he lives all by himself. Anyway, he says he thought the loft was a fine buy, so he got it, & I guess whatever makes him thrilled is fine with me. Anyway, the loft is 6000 square feet & has many stories & either 5 or 6 living rooms. But a single thing he has noticed since moving in is that a gigantic loft means gigantic heating & cooling costs. His utility bill is astronomical, in our opinion. Anyway, he admits that the a/c is too high-priced, so he recently called in an Heating & Air Conditioning specialist to give him some advice on how to make the heating & cooling more efficient & what to do to be fine to the environment & also fine to his trifold. The Heating & Air Conditioning guy gave him many chances to look at, & I believe our sibling has decided to get Heating & Air Conditioning with zone control. They will chop the beach house into areas, or zones, & he can adjust the temperature controls for each zone as appropriate. If no a single is going to be upstairs, there is no need to run the a/c full blast. When he has guests, he can turn the temperature control down for them to keep them comfy in the Summer or use the furnace to keep them overheated in December without chopping the bank.
