My parents decided that they wanted to spend the holidays in the middle of the woods, in a cabin.
I guess that could have been the worst Christmas the two of us had ever had.
I say it could have, because our parents made it enjoyable for us. Although there was no HVAC in the cabin, there was a huge fireplace. I was never one who really enjoyed the cold, because I could not get sizzling once I got cold. With a fireplace, I would grab the ancient afghan off the couch and cuddle up right near the fireplace. At one point, I thought I would spend our entire holiday sitting by the fireplace. I knew our mom wasn’t cheerful about our choice, however there was just no way I was able to get warm, then dad stoked the fireplace and put plenty of wood on it to keep it burning throughout our entire holiday. Although I hate to confess it, the two of us really did have an amazing holiday and that ancient cabin. My siblings were able to go out and do some snow skiing, while I spent the holiday sitting by the fireplace and helping mom. I could not guess of any place Roy would rather be at that moment sitting in the family room with mom or relaxing in front of the fireplace.When our siblings came in from outside, they quickly joined me on the sofa in front of the fireplace. Our mom sat down at the ancient piano and started playing Christmas carols, while dad made boiling apple cider. May not have been the best Christmas the two of us ever had, however it was the most memorable.
