There was no way to get to the gas furnace.

I had a customer call and tell myself and others she needed to have her gas furnace ran tests on, however before I hung up, she said I didn’t need to bring a ladder, because she already had a single.

In all the time I had been an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker, no a single had said this to me, although I didn’t know much about it.

When I got to the house, I realized why she told myself and others this. She showed myself and others the hole in the floor and told myself and others the gas furnace was down there. I opened the door and looked down. There were no steps and no drop down ladders. I knew I had a look of surprise, although I wouldn’t have qualified it as horror love she did. I couldn’t know anyone would could have put a gas furnace down there through this hole. She told myself and others there was another entrance to the gas furnace room, however it was on the other side of the house, and she wasn’t allowed to go there. That side of the house belonged to someone else. When the gas furnace was installed, they went through the other side of the house since they shared the gas furnace. When there were repairs or services needed, the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C supplier came through her half of the house and she paid. The other owners paid for the fuel. It sounded strange to me, although I didn’t write their contract. All I needed to do was get into the basement from here, and I wasn’t sure my ladder was long enough. She produced a ladder that stretched out to eight-foot long and told myself and others that should be long enough to get to the gas furnace.
