Some experiences in life have taught me not to take basic things for granted.
I think that sometimes, we all need to marvel over the fact that we have a roof over our heads, food to eat, a paying job, etc.
There is something else I am greatly appreciative of as well when it comes to basic things that we enjoy. I’ve learned to love climate control more and more. In fact, last weekend taught me to love air conditioning more than ever! Chiefly because my air conditioning unit broke down friday night. There I was, anticipating a good night’s rest -that would not be interrupted by having to leave for work early in the morning- to kick-off a great weekend, and then the air conditioning sputters out in the middle of the night! I woke up in a sweat and went to the thermostat. I keyed in the commands for the air conditioning unit, but nothing was happening. What a bummer this was! Now I would have to schedule an HVAC technician to come out and help. The next morning, I discovered that was not going to be possible until Monday. My HVAC company was booked for the weekend. What awful luck this was! Suddenly, my own house was the last place I wanted to be to relax and have a good time that weekend, mainly because it would be impossible in the heat. I even toyed with the idea of renting out a motel room until Monday, just for the benefit of the air conditioning! I didn’t take air conditioning for granted anymore once it was fixed up on Monday!
