How Often Should You Clean Your Air Ducts?

The air ducts in your HVAC system are like arteries. The arteries transport oxygen and nutrients from the heart. Air ducts connect your HVAC system to your home’s air vents. To cool or heat your home, heated or cooled air passes through the air ducts and then through the air vents. If your body arteries don’t function well or are not clean, then you’d land into lots of troubles in terms of your health. The same applies to air ducts. The air circulating in your home won’t be clean and healthy if your air ducts aren’t clean or don’t function well. Many homeowners wonder: how often should air ducts be cleaned? There is no exact answer to this question. Why? Because how often to clean ducts really depends on a number of factors and who you ask. You don’t really need to clean your air ducts, unless you notice excessive amounts of debris, dirt and mold on your HVAC system. You might want to clean your ducts if someone in your house has constant breathing problems or allergies. It is recommended that you should get your ducts cleaned every 3-5 years, when you move to a new home, when you renovate your home, if there are pets in your home, if there are smokers in your home, and if your house has experienced serious damages such as fire and water damage. Cleaning ducts depends on the homeowner’s preferences. Air flow in your home will be improved and your energy bill will be reduced by cleaning your HVAC system.
