The Thermostat Was Affecting the Furnace

Over the weekend, I realized that something was wrong with my furnace. The house wasn’t being heated consistently and I was hearing the furnace run in irregular patterns. I’m never home during the day because I’m at work, so I wasn’t sure how long the issue was occuring. I didn’t remember hearing the furnace run sporadically the previous weekend, so I assumed that the issue was recent. I did the only thing I knew to do and I called the HVAC company. I told them that some rooms were heated to a different temperature and that the furnace was running sporadically. I also told the HVAC company that it sounded like my furnace was cutting on and cutting off randomly. When the HVAC professional arrived, he was ready to service my furnace to find the issue. He confirmed the issues I was experiencing and he immediately told me that he assumed it was the thermostat. This answer surprised me because I wasn’t considering the thermostat as the issue. After running a few tests, he confirmed that the thermostat was the issue. According to him, the thermostat wasn’t getting an accurate reading of the rooms throughout the house, which was causing my furnace to run irregularly. The furnace wasn’t sure if it should be heating or not. The HVAC professional recalibrated my thermostat and everything began working properly. I’m glad I hired an HVAC professional because I would have never known that my thermostat was causing my furnace to run inefficiently.
