Leaky windows can wreak havoc on your energy expenses

I couldn’t figure out why my electricity bill was climbing at this home I just moved into.

Although this was the first Summer I was living here certainally, I still was shocked by the increase when all of us hit the end of June.

When your electricity bill doubles in a 2 month time frame, it’s easy to worry. But since this home was up-to-date to me, I decided to keep my cool and start mulling over possible explanations for the energy increase. Obviously the air conditioner was being used correctly, however a comparatively sized Heating and Air Conditioning idea in my old home was 10 times more effective and powerful than this up-to-date 1. I thought that maybe it wasn’t the Heating and Air Conditioning to blame for the dismal performance, even though I decided to consult with a heating and cooling company to get a professional’s opinion on the matter. When he ran a diagnostic inspection on the air conditioner and gas furnace, he found that both were laboring officially. The air handler and condenser were only various years old, so this made sense. Then he did a pressure test on the ductwork and found no issues there either. Soon it became evident to us both what was causing so much energy waste. The home has old crank windows that alone are severely leaky, even when operating officially. Unfortunately, sometimes old crank windows do not shut completely, leaving big air gaps akin to leaving your front door cracked while the air conditioner runs. It’s not going to be cheap, however my only choice for improved energy efficiency is getting up-to-date windows throughout my house.
