Hamster in the duct system

I wasn’t glad when our child wanted a hamster, but i don’t love mice, rats or anything in the rodent family.

I held his off for several years but he wouldn’t deliver up on it, then he desperately wanted a hamster for his pet! For his seventh birthday, I finally gave in, & he was really glad.

I made his promise he would take care of cleaning the cage, & feeding & providing water for his pet. I also busy the importance of keeping the hamster contained, then we bought a cage & a giant play part for the hamster, then unfortunately, shortly after the purchase of the hamster, he got away from our kid. She was moving him from the cage to his play part & he got scared & bit his finger. She dropped him & he disappeared. We searched the entire loft for the hamster with no luck… Not long after that, we heard him scurrying around inside the walls. I upset about mangle to the structure of the loft & the smell of rodent feces. I then got the idea that the hamster might have gotten into the ductwork. Since this was in late November, the outside temperature was just beginning to cool off. We were only a couple weeks away from needing to start up the gas furnace! There was no way I could run the gas furnace if our daughter’s pet was living in the air ducts. What if he died inside the duct system? Not only would this devastate our little boy, however the smell would be horrendous. I contacted a local Heating, Ventilation plus A/C business & arranged for professional service of the gas furnace. I also mentioned the chance of a live hamster in the ducts. Fortunately, we were able to bait the hamster out with food.
