Losing weight with the help of a personal trainer

Throughout high school and college, I was always overweight.

I didn’t have a date to the prom, sometimes got picked on, and always felt self-conscious.

I had no confidence and no social life. I tried all sorts of fad diets but was never able to stick with them very long. I tried various workouts, but never had any success. I joined a gym but was so intimidated by the other people that I only went a couple of times. I finally saw an ad for a personal trainer, and decided to give it a try. The personal trainer totally changed my life. He had me start by filling out a questionnaire which helped to identify my goals and concerns. He also insisted that I step on a scale and get my body fat measured. Then we discussed my normal diet and the problem areas. He worked with me to develop a more nutritious meal plan that I could live with. I began my workout regiment that same day. Unlike other fitness programs, this workout was tailored specifically for me. We started slowly and gradually increased intensity. The personal trainer continually introduced new exercises to keep things interesting. He included a mix of core training, weight lifting, aerobics and stretching. I switched between riding a stationary bike, running on the treadmill, working on the rowing machine or swimming. I had progress very quickly and this kept me motivated. Plus, the personal trainer held me accountable, and checked my weight and BMI every month. I’ve now been working with this same personal trainer for five years and I’ve lost over fifty pounds. I feel so much happier, healthier and more energetic.
