No site visits from HVAC repairman during the pandemic

When the pandemic hit and lockdown measures were put in place, I knew that we would not get any visits from any technicians for a while since I did not want to risk infection to my elderly parents whom I lived with and who had other underlying issues.

Since I knew I could not have outsiders in my house for a couple of months, I decided to take measures to maintain my HVAC unit all on my own.

The first thing I did was to scour the internet to find out more about heating and how I could keep my boiler working perfectly. I learned how to check and change the furnace filter as well as examine the temperature control. I was lucky I had just had the HVAC repairman perform a HVAC tune-up on the heater right before the pandemic hit. For this reason, I knew that I would not have to deal with serious boiler repairs. I also learned to inspect the different heat and AC products such as the refrigerant and the condenser. I made sure to check on all of this equipment at least every 3 months. The electric heat pump did help with indoor comfort all through the winter without the electric heat pump going through the heat pump service. As for the hydronic heating unit on the first floor, it did not need constant maintenance and so I was not worried about contacting the heating dealer through the winter. The research I had done on the HVAC systems really played a role in keeping my family and myself safe from the pandemic. The lockdown measures continued for a year and during this time, our unit served us well all through all the seasons.
