Converting the garage to a warm living space for my son with the help of an electric heat pump

My son was coming home from college and since his little sister had taken his room, I decided to convert the garage for him.

Now since winter was round the corner, I realized that I had to make sure that the garage was hospitable enough for someone to comfortably live in there.

I checked the internet for the most suitable unit for the small space. I needed a permanent solution for this as later we could convert it to an office for my work. Since we had a hydronic heating system in the main house, I opted for an electric heat pump for the garage. With this kind of a heater, it would serve him during the winter as well as summer. Because it came with a changeable furnace filter, I knew that would also help with his allergies and asthma. The heating dealer delivered the unit and the HVAC repairman set out to install the unit. On the same day, we were running a HVAC tune-up on our system since the temperature control was not working and some of the heat and AC products were worn out. The boiler in the main house had stopped working and so boiler repair was also being performed on it in order to help with indoor comfort. As the technicians knew more about heating than any of us, they emphasized to us the importance of annual heat pump service. My son got to enjoy his new living quarters and it was warm and cozy in there. He enjoyed it more than his actual bedroom that now belonged to his kid sister. The unit in the garage lasted for approximately 15 years and after my son left, I turned the garage, now a bedroom, into an office.
