Heading up north

When I first moved up North I had no clue how different the climate was going to be.

I am not sure why I didn’t really think about it, weather has never been on the forefront of my mind. I don’t even think I’ve ever really used my heating and cooling system, I just open the windows and let the fresh air in. Now that I live up North, I realize how essential it is to have a good heating and cooling system. It gets so cold up here that I feel like I need to have the best oil furnace I can possibly find. The house we moved into had heated floors installed, and since we moved in during the summer I wasn’t really sure why. Now that it is winter, I understand how nice it is to have radon flooring and a good oil furnace. Also, if it it wasn’t for my smart thermostat, I really don’t know what I would do. I turn on the thermostat while I am on my way home so that the entire house has time to heat up. If I didn’t have a smart thermostat I would probably just keep the heater on all day long and run up the energy bill. We had some neighbors give us energy saving tips when we first moved here, and I am very grateful for that. I have never seen a heating and cooling bill be so high! It’s about 5 times as much as I was previously paying for my AC and heating back home. I doubt I will ever use an air conditioner here because it’s so cold, although I have heard that the summers can get pretty hot.
