I can’t come close to matching the precision of the smart thermostat

Well, my wife made me a bet I couldn’t refuse that the smart thermostat would out do me in the savings department.

My wife can tend to be a bit trigger happy when it comes to new tech stuff. If it’s the latest iteration of a phone or some other thing, my wife is on it. To her credit, she’ll read about it and really understand what makes the new thing better than the old thing. But when it came to adding the latest in HVAC technology to the house, I balked. Years ago, I went through some effort to learn how to program the digital thermostat. And this was part of an overall strategy to reduce the costs of HVAC cooling. In our part of the country, the biggest HVAC issue is, by far, the cost of the central air conditioning. The heating part of the HVAC is pretty negligible. It’s so nice during the winter that there have been entire months where I never had to flip the thermostat to heating. But the HVAC cooling costs were eating us up. And so, I researched and set forth a cost saving strategy that required my learning how to program the digital thermostat. And I was certain that I could do better than any smart thermostat. Well, my wife made me a bet I couldn’t refuse that the smart thermostat would out do me in the savings department. I was cocky and took the bet. The smart thermostat has been active now for three months. And I never even got close to what it’s saving us in HVAC cooling costs. Not only did I have to acknowledge my defeat but my wife now gets to pick a year of destinations and activities for date night.
