Pay attention to HVAC condensate

It’s August and around here, there really isn’t a hotter month than this month.

August is sort of that long hill at the end of a marathon.

You know that once you get over this one hill, things will be better and the finish of the race, while challenging, will be much easier. That’s the way it feels during the last week of August. All the HVAC cooling has helped us get through the initial trials of June and July. But the big hill of the summer is for sure August. And that’s the hill I’m climbing now. With all the HVAC cooling that’s been going on Since at least late April, it’s important to keep up with the heating and cooling equipment chores. While I get seasonal HVAC maintenance from the HVAC professionals, there are things that I have to do. Of course, it’s imperative that I change out the HVAC air filter each month. That’s essential to the health of the heat pump as it needs unimpeded air flow to provide the central air conditioning we rely on. But the condensate from the HVAC is also something to pay attention to this time of year as well. There is a drain line that goes from the drain pan under the HVAC unit to the outside. But with all the lawn mowing and debris outside, that drain line can get clogged which would then back that condensate up and cause a problem. So I try to get out with a shop vac and make sure that the HVAC condensate line is clear this time of year as we make the final turn of heat season.
