I’m going back home soon, as I’m sure you well know by now.
One of the first places I will visit is my dad’s grave to drop off some flowers and a beer.
Then I will go by his old HVAC company to see some of the cooling reps and say hi. I’ve accepted the fact now that dad is gone forever but I feel like something inside of me has died with him. I used to have this hope and this fire inside of me about accomplishing all of these artistic goals, but now I feel that my days are also numbered because my dad died of something that will probably get me too. He did a lot for the HVAC industry, inventing a lot of different HVAC equipment and also making a lot of good friends from running his local business. I thought I would live to be like 106 years old, but my dad dying at 73 made me change my mind. He worked in the heating business doing gas and electric furnace sales but had his life cut short of prostate cancer, which is also how his brothers died. It seems to run in the family, which means I may only have about ten or 15 years left to live. I wanted to be this old musician playing in climate controlled pubs and bars when I was an old man, but I have this feeling that my time is running short and I may not be able to do this in time. I guess I need to keep a positive mindset and keep pushing forward though.
