I called the local HVAC company last week, because I wanted my air conditioning unit serviced, and any minor repairs necessary, done at that time.
When the HVAC technician arrived, he was one who had been to the house several times.
I knew him well, and he and my husband often joke around. When he came into the house half an hour later, he told me he couldn’t repair the air conditioning unit. He told me we needed a new central AC unit. I started to laugh, because I was sure he was kidding. He looked serious, but I wasn’t sure. I told him I hoped he was joking, but right now, I wasn’t sure. He explained about the problem with the air conditioning unit, but I wasn’t listening. He reminded me he had told us the air conditioning unit was getting old, when he did the service last year. I listened to him talk, but I wasn’t really hearing what he was saying. My husband walked in from work, and shook the HVAC technician’s hand. He sat down and asked what was wrong. He told my husband we needed a new air conditioning unit. My husband didn’t seem surprised and asked what the damage would be. He gave us an estimate on a new air conditioning unit like the one we had. My husband shrugged and told him we didn’t have a choice. He told him to put the order in and let us know when they got it in and they could have it installed. I was still waiting for one of them to tell me they were joking.
