I’m living in a house that I got really cheap because of its age. I knew there was going to be a lot of work that needed to be done right after I took possession of the building. First thing that I needed to do was replace the roof. It was already 30 years old at that point and there was no way I could get home insurance because of its age. After I got all the roof work done, I wanted to replace the floors throughout the house. I discovered after ripping up the tile that there had been some water damage done to the subfloors underneath. This ended up being a much bigger project than I initially expected when I bought this thing on a discount. But one of the worst things that I didn’t anticipate was the quality of the heating and cooling system. The ventilation in particular was poorly designed when it was put in after the house was originally built. I looked at the age and it seems like the house was built in the 1940s and the ventilation system was added in the 1970s. So after replacing the roof, I set myself to getting a new heating and cooling system and new duct work as well. I worked with a local HVAC supplier and found a really good HVAC system with a high SEER rating. And I also asked the company to replace the old dial thermostat with the newer digital thermostat. I considered getting a smart thermostat but I’m not sure if I’m really going to use all of its features to make it worth the investment.
