I’ll stay in my car, Alex

Some years ago I thought I found a great job when I started working for an insurance adjuster in a downtown office.

I felt fortunate at that time when I had the interview because I used to be a salesperson who traveled a lot around the country & I thought it would be good to have a proper schedule in an office located near our beach house where I could be at the beach house in time for supper with our family.

I started the brand new job in late Fall when the weather was perfect. I could kneel at our desk & constantly open the window, breathe in the fresh air & look out at the people casually passing on the sidewalk below. The first snowstorm hit in early January that year, & that is when it dawned on myself and others that the building obviously had an antique gas furnace that could barely heat a room, much less a work office. It was an unusually chilly Winter so there I sat, day after day with a massively bulky sweater on good days & even a heavy overcoat on my body for the chilly days. I was ecstatic to see Spring arrive however when summer time heat rolled around, I found out that the A/C system was 2 window units situated across the room where our boss sat with his appealing personal “assistant.” I never got the sweat stains off our dress shirts. After months of this, I finally quit & went back to our aged job where the comfort created by the operable A/C & gas furnace in our automobile while driving to our next sales call across the city was much better than that uncomfortable office.
