Hail can ruin your HVAC

Who knew, weather could be the thing that would absolutely destroy my indoor air quality control equipment.

  • It’s a bit ironic, isn’t it? Here I am, investing in high-quality indoor air handling devices and paying high energy bills to keep my indoor air quality perfectly managed rather than dealing with the uncomfortable outdoor air temperature that tends to surround us… and the outdoor climate turns around to destroy my heating, cooling, and air quality control equipment.

I never really realized that indoor air temperature control systems were so susceptible to damage from the outdoor environment. It turns out, a little bit of golf size hail will immediately destroy your central cooling system if it is not protected. Of course, I never thought that it was necessary for my central cooling unit to have an expensive metal cage around it. I live in a nice neighborhood where my air conditioning system is not at risk of being stolen. I don’t have many tall trees in my yard that could potentially fall on the expensive air handling device. Therefore, I paid a lot of attention to paying for professional heating, cooling, and ventilation maintenance services for the past 5 years… But never consider the necessity of a protective cage for my AC unit. Little did I know, a huge storm would blow through the area last week and send hail down from the sky. The icy bits immediately pummeled my central cooling system and completely destroyed the air handling device. Now, I have no indoor air Temperature control until I can scrape together the money for a professional HVAC upgrade. I will be investing in a metal air conditioning cage this time.
