The thermostat was the final straw

I can’t say that I’m the best partner in the world, and I know it.

I wouldn’t recommend that anyone tries to date me, because I can be a real nightmare.

I’m kind and funny, easy to get along with and lowkey… until I’m not. Until we’re living together, most likely. That’s when I’m suddenly a lot more difficult to deal with on a daily basis. This is especially going to be true if we’re living under the same roof and therefore sharing the same thermostat. I can’t tell you how many fights I’ve been in over the thermostat. It feels like no matter what I do with my living situations, there’s never a clear understanding that the indoor air quality control equipment needs to be shared and so do the professional heating, cooling, and ventilation system responsibilities. This includes things such as cleaning the air ducts, setting the thermostat program appropriately, and changing the air filter. Things that seem really easy and simple to negotiate with anyone who’s ever owned a basic heating and cooling setup before. But it isn’t. In my last relationship, we could never come to an agreement on the indoor air quality control settings. I was always hot, he was always cold, and the HVAC equipment got stuck somewhere in between. Our energy bill was always through the roof and we didn’t need any extra financial concerns on the table along with our conflict. In the end, our heating and cooling system broke down… and so did our relationship. These days I think it’s best to keep my HVAC system separate from everyone else’s.
