Indoor air quality is sort of a new concept to me.
And there were plenty of misconceptions when it came to air pollutants that had to be erased.
I just figured that since I lived out in the country, the air in my house was super clean. The air outside is super clean so it only made sense to me that the indoor air quality was good. What compounded that misunderstanding was the fact that I always change the air filter on the HVAC each month. And each month, I see dirt and dust on the HVAC air filter. Again, my mind goes right to the fact that this air filter was actually cleaning the air since it was catching dirt and dust. For sure, there are HEPA filters out there that are actively cleaning the air. But I never spent the money on those. My air filters were just protecting the health of the HVAC equipment. So when my doctor suggested that I get my HVAC air ducts cleaned because she suspected poor indoor air quality, I was confused. I’d had a series of colds and stuff that lingered. So the doctor said I should improve the indoor air quality with ductwork cleaning. I did what she said and was so pleased at the results. Not only did my respiratory stuff clear up and not come back. I ended up saving money on HVAC utility costs due to the ductwork resealing after the ductwork cleaning was done. I didn’t have a clue just how much HVAC treated air was getting wasted due to all the gaps in our dirty air ducts.
