Went another level with HVAC cooling savings this year

When I got sent home from the zone controlled HVAC comfort of the office to work in the central air conditioning of my house, it came with a pay cut too.

Like it wasn’t enough that I was trying to figure out how to work remotely but I had to do it with less money.

What’s more is that my wife lost her part time job outright so we had some serious cutting to do to our spending. One of the targets that first summer of the pandemic was the HVAC cooling. We’d been spending far too much on air conditioning for years but I was too lazy to really do anything about it. That all changed when we had to save money and seriously. I figured out how to seal up the house to maximize the efficiency of the HVAC equipment. Stopping the direct sunlight heating was another big factor as well. But the biggest change was being consistent with the thermostat setting. It worked out so well that I figured out how to program the digital thermostat last summer as I was back in the office. Even more savings ensued. So this year, I went to another level when it comes to my efforts to save on HVAC cooling. Like, I haven’t turned on the range or the oven all summer. I’m doing all the cooking outside on the grill. I even changed out all the lights to LED as they are much less cooler. Hanging the clothes out has also led to additional savings and it’s not heating up the house by running the dryer. It’s pretty amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.
