I’ve been getting super high heating and cooling bills in the mail for the past few months.
At first I thought that there was something wrong with my HVAC system in my house.
I mean, there was really no reason for me to be getting such high heating and cooling bills. Nothing had really changed as far as the exterior temperatures and as far as I knew, there was nothing different in the house either. I had remembered to change the air filters regularly, and I had been having the HVAC company come and do regular maintenance on the heating and cooling system, too. Well, come to find out, the high heating and cooling bills had nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that there was something wrong with my HVAC system. I did a little bit of detective work and I started to notice that the temperature settings on my thermostat weren’t really matching up with what I originally put the settings on. I have a smart thermostat and I had it programmed just perfectly, or so I thought. Apparently, my kids had started changing the settings on the heating and cooling system whenever I would leave for work and then they let the A/C and the heating run all day long when no one was even home during the day! No wonder the air conditioning and the heating bills had gotten so high. I took drastic measures and purchased one of those plastic covers with the keys so I could lock the kids out of the thermostat!
