Hey dad, what would you think if I decided I wanted to be an HVAC technician?

For the last two weeks, our high school has been hosting job fairs for the juniors and seniors.

We had several amusement parks in our area, and they were all looking for part-time workers for the summer.

There were also the businesses that were looking to hire apprentices, such as HVAC, plumbing, and electricians. Mostly the apprentices would be doing the grunt work, but some of them would be working toward a scholarship for technical school. It depended on whether you were a junior or senior. When I attended the job fair last week, I was truly impressed with the HVAC program that they were offering. It was a year of paid apprenticeship, where you would work with HVAC technicians and in the parts room, and see just what HVAC work was all about. At the end of the apprenticeship, if you had done your job well, the HVAC company offered an apprenticeship to send you to college and learn how to be an HVAC technician or specialist. When I got home from school that evening I walked into the house and saw my dad sitting at the table. The first thing I said to him after saying good afternoon, was to ask him what he would think if I decided I wanted to be an HVAC technician. Dad smiled for a couple seconds, and then he got serious he told me that his dad was the first HVAC technician in our area. He often wished he had gone into business with his father at the HVAC company, but it wasn’t to be. He then told me how proud he would be if I were to make the same career choice.
