I couldn't understand why they put the AC unit and the furnace in the garage.

I knew I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting my car in the garage, and I definitely wasn’t comfortable having the door from the house into the garage within feet of the HVAC system.

When my wife and I were looking for a new home, we were checking out everything from condos, to brownstones, to four-bedroom homes. We really didn’t have any specifics when it came to a new home, but it couldn’t be a fixer-upper. Neither my wife nor I had the patience to make repairs on a home, so it had to be in excellent condition. When our realtor showed us a condo right outside of town, we loved it. It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a heated garage. The only thing that I was concerned with, was that the furnace and the AC unit was in the garage. I had never seen a central air conditioning unit that was not outside. I also worried about any off gasses coming from the furnace and ending up in the garage. I knew I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting my car in the garage, and I definitely wasn’t comfortable having the door from the house into the garage within feet of the HVAC system. My wife asked me what my biggest complaint was for not buying this condo, and I told her about the HVAC system. She didn’t seem too bothered by it, since there was a small walkway between the house and the garage. Two days later, my wife had convinced me that the HVAC system was fine, and we should put a bid in on the house.Although she thought she had me totally convinced about the new house and the HVAC system, I still had my doubts. Before actually putting in the bed, I called an HVAC contractor and asked if he would please inspect the HVAC system and tell me if there were any problems with where it was placed.
