Back in the winter, our friend Nick called us up in a panic.
- He said that he thought that the inside of his furnace was melting.
At first I thought that it was a joke, because furnaces don’t melt! But then Nick told us that the furnace in his house was well over fifty years old and they had never had it updated once in the whole time that it had been in the house. He said that he was pretty sure that the safety features in his furnace were completely outdated. I told him to turn the whole thing off but he was afraid to even mess around with the furnace at all at that point. I told him that he would have to turn it off because it was a fire hazard. Even though this was during the coldest part of the winter and the temperatures outside were really cold, Nick ended up turning his furnace off and it was a good thing that he did. Once everything cooled down and they could get a good look at the old furnace, it was easy to see that this thing was an accident waiting to happen. I guess the reason that it got so bad this particular time was because it had been running constantly during the cold snap that we were having. Nick and his family could have had their house burn down around them because of that old furnace! They ended up having to get the whole system replaced and I am really glad that they did.
